Hippo and Elephant

The friendship between a hippopotamus and an elephant is fantasized in the endearing design of this pair of albesia wood ornaments by Gusti Lanang, from Bhakti Senang Hati. The nonprofit cooperative helps people with physical disabilities to develop self-confidence and physical and economic independence.

'One of my leg was amputated due to a motorbike accident and I joined the foundation in 2007. Here I met my wife, who is on wheelchair, and we have a son. Now we work together for our little family's future. I craft the ornaments by hand, and my wife controls the quality.'
