With this pendant necklace, Mexican artisan Angel Ortiz pays homage to K'inich Janaab Pacal I, the ajaw, or ruler of the pre-Hispanic city-state of Palenque. A depiction of a stucco sculpture discovered there is realized in Taxco sterling silver. The original bust can be seen in the National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City.
