Renu Rani
?Hello friends, my name is Renu Rani and I am from the capital city of India, Delhi. I was born in Uttar Pradesh. I completed my graduation from Rohilkhand University, with an intention of becoming a school teacher.

?Since childhood, I always had an inclination towards creative activities. During my college days I participated in festive fairs like Durga Puja and Dussehra Diwali with full excitement, where I exhibited my handcrafted items like small birds, garlands, snowmen, etc. People appreciated my crafts and also purchased them. It was fun.

?I got married in 2006 and shifted to Delhi. This is when I actually thought of implementing my hobby into a career, instead of becoming a teacher. I started designing and crafting for some local retailers who dealt in Christmas ornaments, sculptures, toys, etc. A lady in the neighborhood who used to work with an export house taught me the orientation, technique and intricacies of crafting the ornaments. I also made polyester tissue pouches for ornaments, and jewelry pouches and jewelry box cushions at home.

?It was in 2010 that I decided to start out on my own. My husband is my constant support. He encourages me and stands with me in all my decisions. Now I have a small workshop of my own with four ladies to assist me. I mostly do the designing, while the other ladies craft the ornaments. My husband takes care of the logistics and finance.

?Giving shape to the fabric ornaments is the best thing about this craft. We design and craft each ornament out of felt fabric. Each piece is then stuffed with polyfill to give the right shape and size. We create felt ornaments, garlands and buntings for Christmas. We also take orders for any other occasion, according to the requirement of the customer.

?Working with me gives my team members opportunity of employment and financial stability. The ladies feel independent and proud that they are able to contribute something towards their family.

?I have a daughter and a son who are equally interested in this craft and spend their free time with me, appreciating the beauty of the craft. They are very young now. But I hope as they grow up they also learn the craft techniques and create lovely ornaments. I also look forward to teaching this craft to anyone who is interested.

?In 2019, I got recognition as an artisan by the ministry of textiles, and had the opportunity to participate in the museum craft fair.

?I am so excited and grateful to you for giving me a platform to exhibit my talent. I hope that you purchase my products so that I can help my co-workers, keep the art alive, and transfer this skill to the next generation.?
